Plasmonic photonic crystal with a complete band gap for surface plasmon polariton waves

چکیده
A dielectric plasmonic photonic crystal for manipulating surface plasmon polariton SPP fields has been designed, fabricated, and tested. The band structure of SPP fields inside the plasmonic photonic crystal has been calculated using the plane wave expansion method and validated by full wave numerical simulations. The fabricated device was characterized using our far-field SPP imaging technique. The transmittance of incident SPP waves is about 5% at 1520 nm a designed band gap frequency , confirming the designed band structure. The results show, both experimentally and theoretically, a complete two-dimensional band gap for in-plane SPP waves. The SPP fields at frequencies within this specified 0.14 a /2 c-wide band gap frequency range are forbidden to propagate through the plasmonic photonic crystal. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. Adjustable Plasmonic Bandgap in One-Dimensional Nanograting Based on Localized and Propagating Surface Plasmons
Compared to the long history of plasmonic gratings, there are only a few studies regarding the bandgap in the propagation of plasmonic surface waves. Considering the previous studies on interpretation of plasmonic bandgap formation, we discuss this phenomenon using the effect of both surface plasmon polariton (SPP) and localized surface plasmon (LSP) for our fabricated one-dimensional metallic-...

The hybridization of the plasmonic and guided modes in the case of one-dimension photonic crystal based on Bragg mirror terminated by a corrugated metal film has been demonstrated theoretically. The simulations have showed that the hybrid plasmonic-photonic mode is characterized by low broadening due to redistribution of the electric field intensity between photonic mode and surface plasmon pol...

We present a novel time-domain experimental approach to the study of the dynamics of surface electromagnetic wave propagation in a two-dimensional photonic crystal. A surface plasmon polariton is launched by ultrafast laser pulses and propagates into a photonic crystal, the dynamics of which are measured by an interferometric cross-correlation method. Plasmon photonic stopgaps are characterized...
متن کاملPlasmon-polariton waves in nanofilms on one- dimensional photonic crystal surfaces
The propagation of bound optical waves along the surface of a one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystal (PC) structure is considered. A unified description of the waves in 1D PCs for both sand p-polarizations is done via an impedance approach. A general dispersion relation that is valid for optical surface waves with both polarizations is obtained, and conditions are presented for long-range propag...
متن کاملA New Method for Calculating Propagation Modes of a One Dimensional Photonic Crystal (RESEARCH NOTE)
Photonic band-gap (PBG) crystals offer new dimensions of freedom in controlling propagation of electromagnetic waves. The existence of stop-bands in the transmission characteristic of these crystals makes them a suitable element for the realization of many useful microwave and optical subsystems. In this paper, we calculate the propagation constant of a one-dimensional (1-D) photonic crystal by...
